Spotted on Make, this is a simple robotic arm for “Ages 10 and up”.

Robotic arms have appeared in plenty of films and video games, but the hand’s pincers and colors seem prety directly lifted out of Aliens:

Though like all technology  the robotic arm didn’t just leap from screen to household, there have been plenty of weird experiments in the field. The following video details a machine built by a Panasonic subsidiary called ActiveLink that is expected to be out doing business by 2015 [via Gizmodo].

I especially like the HUD they added into the video, just to cement its connection to the futuristic devices seen in… oh say, Iron Man:
